Members of the National Guard and reserve components of the U.S. Armed Forces who are called to active duty are now entitled to more time to pay their real estate taxes or manufactured home taxes. This benefit allows for up to five years to pay these taxes without penalty or interest.
Either the person on active duty or his or her spouse or dependent parent may apply to the county treasurer for an extension of the payment of their taxes on real estate or manufactured homes. A person holding a power of attorney granted by the member may also make application on behalf of the member. The benefit is available during the period of the person's active duty and for six months after it terminates.
Application must be made no later than the last day of the sixth month after the member's active duty terminates. For those who qualify, any penalties and interest charged during the member's duty and before the first day of the seventh month after the member's duty terminates will be removed. If this deadline was missed, you may still apply and submit a request to have interest and penalty removed.
Further information about the Military Assistance Program can be obtained by calling the treasurer's office at (740) 702-3080 or email us at treasurer@rosscountyohio.gov. Applications can also be picked up at the Treasurer's office in the Ross County Courthouse.
